When Writing Helped Me Breathe Again

I wrote this because the urge to hurt myself had returned, and for a moment, everything felt heavy again. But I am grateful that, instead of letting that darkness take over, I chose to write down my feelings. Writing gave my emotions a place to go. It made the weight feel a little lighter, and slowly, I was able to breathe again.

Sometimes, endings do not feel like new beginnings at first. They feel pain, confusion, and loneliness. They make you feel trapped inside your own darkness, as if there is no way out. But maybe darkness is not always the end. Maybe it is the place where we learn how badly we want to shine.

The night may seem dark, lonely, colourless, and lifeless, but in reality, it is more alive than we think. The stars shine their brightest only when the sky is at its darkest. They do not wait for the world to become brighter. They glow fearlessly in the darkness and make the night beautiful.

And if the stars can shine in the dark, then maybe I can too.

Maybe everyone who feels like a small setback is the end of everything needs to know that it is not a full stop. It is only a pause. It is a painful page, not the whole story. Sometimes life breaks us, not to end us, but to push us towards a new chapter we never thought we could write.

So, hold your pen.

Write what hurts. Write what you cannot say out loud. Write the thoughts that feel too heavy to carry alone. Write a new chapter, even if your hands are shaking and your heart feels tired.

Make it honest. Make it messy. Make it yours.

Because one day, when you look back, it may all make sense. The pain, the darkness, the pause, the tears, and the beginning you never saw coming.

And until then, keep writing. Keep breathing. Keep choosing yourself.

Also, please don’t stay alone with that urge if it comes back. Reach out to someone you trust immediately, and if you feel unsafe, contact local emergency support or a crisis helpline in your area.
